Sometimes it’s not so easy to jump on a plane and head wherever you want, whenever you want. And if you’re anything like us, the travel bug is a constant bite. Since we live in one of the most beautiful places on Earth, it’s pretty easy to temporarily dull the itch to get out and explore, simply by taking off into our own backyard.
- Okanagan Wineries
It’s no secret that BC is home to some pretty amazing vineyards. Our Okanagan grapes are some of the best, and it’s evident in our VQA wines. So, idea #1 to squash the travel itch is a weekend getaway to the Okanagan. Head to Sparkling Hill Resort & Spa for some relaxation before taking part in a wine tour. The views, while sipping a couple [ahem, a few] wines, are some of the best in the province.
2. Tofino, Vancouver Island
Tofino boasts some of the best surfing spots this side of the Pacific Ocean – plus the views are just stunning, too. Whether or not you take to the waves, Tofino has something for everyone. Sit on the beach & watch the storms, or stay at the Tigh-Na-Mara in Parksville – Vancouver Island on the whole won’t disappoint.
3. Revelstoke, BC
This little Rocky Mountain town has a lot to offer – both during ski season, and in the summer! Having visited Revelstoke on both occasions, we can definitely attest to their night life, their activities, and their vibe! Try out their mountain roller coaster in the summer, and make a point to hit the slopes in the winter – their snow is different from what we are used to on our North Shore mountains. Plus! Revelstoke has tons of little restaurants and bars that are locally owned!
4. Great Bear Rainforest
On the stretch of coastline in BC, this protected forest has few roads and is pretty remote – giving you a chance to feel peace, & serenity. Also! It’s the only place in the world that you can catch a glimpse of the rare, white Kermode (Spirit) Bear. The Great Bear Rainforest has been home to BC First Nations for thousands of years, so you’ll definitely feel their influence!
And of course, our list wouldn’t be complete without topping it off with Vancouver. Head down for a weekend away, and see the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, a Canucks game, or to dine at some of the best local restaurants out there. Shop along Robson, and grab a coffee at any of the great cafes lining the streets. It’s the perfect city getaway spot!
