Our lovely travel agent, and cruiser extraordinaire, Carol, recently took a cruise up to Alaska – and she had such a great time! We asked her about some of her favourite moments, and to sum up her trip!
Cruising the inside passage to Alaska out of Vancouver on a Holland America Ship is a great way to travel. If you aren’t a fan of flying, and live in the Lower Mainland [or surrounding area], there are no flights to have to consider, since this cruise ports out of Vancouver! It makes it easier to relax on your vacation!
We experienced some beautiful scenery as we sailed up the inside passage – some quintessential British Columbia coastline. The wild life made a debut, with a grizzly bear wandering on shore, and whales breaching. It was amazing!
We stopped first in Alaska’s first city, Ketchikan! It is a great little town that is perfect for those who want to go touring, or just wandering and exploring the shops along the way. There are a lot of tours to choose from – from the Misty Fjords, to the Rainforest Canopy & Zipline expedition, there is something for everyone!
From there, we cruised through Tracy Arm – an incredibly scenic route, and onto Juneau. There, we toured the Mendenhall Glacier, and saw more wildlife – a porcupine in a tree! After, we had a great BBQ salmon dinner, with live entertainment.
Continuing our journey to Skagway, we took the White Pass Summit Rail and Bus tour. It was a bright and sunny day, perfect to take in the beautiful scenery. After Skagway, we headed back to the boat, and sailed home!
